THE GOVERNOR |
To all my Brothers & Co-workers,
Well
here we are, it's the 4th of July; Time to celebrate
our Independence and Freedom. The best way to do
that is to be with your friends. Stop by the Lodge
on the 5th for our annual picnic. (Don't forget
to bring a covered dish to share). Kick back, relax
and enjoy the fellowship generated by all of our
friends and members there will be lots of fun and
food for the entire family. With our economy being
what it is, now is the best time for us to frequent
our Lodge. Right now the Moose Lodge is the best
deal in town with; great lunches, dinners and breakfast
along with; free entertainment every Friday and
Saturday night and horseshoes, darts, pool, shuffleboard
for adults, a terrific playground and our new indoor
play room for the children.
With all that we have here at Moose Lodge 1655,
we are still able to support our children at Mooseheart
and our seniors at Moosehaven. Not to mention all
of our other community charities. What a great place
- the Fredericksburg Moose Family Center.
Come on out and enjoy your Lodge. Hope to see you
soon.
Fraternally
Yours,
Wayne Jones, Governor

THE SENIOR REGENT |
Good July to You All,
Our July 5th picnic is just around the corner. Let
us all be thankful for the country that we live
in and the freedoms that we enjoy.
We have had many cases of illness in our Moose Family
in recent weeks. Let us embrace our loved ones and
tell them how we feel, because life is truly short.
The annual membership dues for the Women have increased
ten dollars starting this month. It will now be
$30.00 dues and $20.00 application fee for all new
members. When filling out an application, please
fill out all areas of the form. We do need the Sponsors
address and ID number. The Obligation of Membership
(which is located on the back of the application)
must also be signed by your applicant. Any woman
who is an Officer can assist you in completing this
form, thus making for a speedier process.
There are some new changes coming to the Women of
the Moose and they were announced in Las Vegas.
I challenge all Past Senior Regents to attend either
of the Executive Sessions that are available to
them this year in order to become aware of these
new updates:
The
new WOTM Ritual/Handbook should be available online
this month as well as the last copy of the General
Laws book.
Thank you all again for you contributions to our
on going Food Drive,
Dawn Boxwell
Senior Regent

THE JUNIOR GOVERNOR |
Dear Brothers and Co-Workers,
With
summer quickly approaching, and family planning
and taking vacations, what about our Children of
Mooseheart? Where will they spend their summer?
Well, some may return home to visit relatives, but
a majority of them may visit Mooseheart’s
Camp Ross.
Camp
Ross is a woodland paradise located just outside
of Mount Morris in northwestern Illinois. Opened
its doors in 1959 but was officially dedicated in
1960.
Where
do the children of Mooseheart go during the summer,
some return home to visit relatives, but more than
250 of our children at Mooseheart attend Camp Ross
for the summer.
Camp
Ross’s 150 acres of woodland traversed by
Pine Creek came about from a donation of 86 acres
by Past Supreme Governor Harold Ross and his wife
Dorothy donated 86 acres.
All
of Camp Ross’s building with the exception
of recreation; dining and the Walter Ketz Memorial
Chapel have all been funded by the Moose Legion.
The above facilities were made possible by the Mooseheart
Alumni Association.
During
the Children’s stay at Camp Ross, the swimming
pool 25 feet wide by 60 Feet long is just one of
their favorite summer time events. Plus the campfires,
hiking and other enjoyable programs that Camp Ross
provides.
With
extensive funding from the Moose Legion, in 1990,
Camp Ross buildings were winterized to open up Winter
Camping. It now provides numerous winter events
to include sledding, ice skating and snowmobile
trails to mention just a few.
This
is just one of the endeavors the Moose Legion provides
support to. If you are not a member and you meet
the qualification and want to become more involved
with projects like Camp Ross, please see me or any
one our Moose Legionnaires for an application.
Also,
speaking about the Moose Legion, on July 11 and
12th Bull Run 185 is holding their spring celebration;
it will be hosted by the Stafford lodge (Fredericksburg
North as known by others in the lodge). I ask that
all the members of the Fredericksburg Moose Legion,
please try to attend, you have a great time, and
it is not far from our Lodge. Please try to attend,
for details of events please look at the MLC Board
in the lodge.

THE PRELATE |
Summer
has struck with a vengeance and I hope all of you
are coping with the heat. It seems like just a few
weeks ago we were wishing for warmer weather. As
they say, we should be careful what we wish for.
Just wait until next month and we will be wishing
for the cool days of July. But heat and humidity
are the facts of life here in Virginia. If you have
to be outside remember to drink plenty of water.
I know all about the fish thing, but it is important
to keep hydrated.
July
4th is rapidly approaching. As we celebrate our
nation’s birthday let us remember those who
are serving and protecting us in other parts of
the world. They and those who stood before them
are the reason we can celebrate 232 years of freedom.
Also, don’t forget that the Lodge Picnic will
be on Saturday, July 5th. Be sure to attend and
enjoy the celebration. Bring your favorite side
dish. It is sure to be a good time.
Once
again, do not hesitate to contact me at the email
address below if you hear of a member in sickness
or distress. Enjoy the holiday.

| FELLOWSHIP
/ PILGRIM COMMITTEE |
To all members of the Fellowship/Pilgrim Degree:
Hello again,
we have great news if you haven’t already
heard (sure). Congratulations to George Moore
on becoming our newest Pilgrim. I can tell
you that George is so very, very proud, and
we are proud of him. Please be sure to congratulate
him if you happen to see or talk to him.
I’d like to thank all
of those Fellows and Pilgrims that attended
the meeting of June 5th. I think everyone
enjoyed the camaraderie and conversation that
took place. Don’t forget that our group
is holding a raffle on a John Deere riding
lawn mower. Tickets are six for five dollars.
Please help us by selling as many as you can.
We will be drawing the winning ticket at the
July 4th picnic on July 5th. There are tickets
behind the bar and you can definitely acquire
them through Jim Hudgins who is coordinating
the sales. Thank you Jim for your help.
Last but not least, I’m
“busted.” I will explain what
that means. As some of you know (members at
our meetings), we have a breakfast once a
month. Ever since I have been a member of
this group, I have helped with breakfast every
other month. When I started, I was told there
were two teams to handle this. I chose to
name them the A team and the Ragtag team (turns
out that means whoever you can get to help).
I’ve also helped with quite a few breakfasts
with other groups, such as MLC, Endowment,
and Ritual. Now, I don’t know how many
of you know this, but when it comes to this
subject, I’ll cook bacon, potatoes,
scrapple, etc. However, when the first ticket
comes into the kitchen, I immediately back
up and let the cook take over. That didn’t
work out very well this month (June). When
I backed up to look at the first ticket, there
was NO COOK!!! Rather than try to let you
guess what happened next, I’ll just
tell you. I became a cook like it or not.
Considering I broke the first four over-easy
eggs (and none after that), I didn’t
do too bad a job.
Although I jest about the
breakfast experience, there is a moral to
my story. All committees can use help, and
there is a dire need for cooks. The same members
can’t be asked to do it all the time.
It’s easy to assume it will be taken
care of. The end result of my experience with
the breakfast mentioned above was that maybe
I can do more than I thought I could. I would
like to thank the people that helped with
“your” ragtag team Fellow/Pilgrim
breakfast. Those people are Marie Burnette,
Wayne and Judy Jones, Jim Hudgins, Kim Denniston,
& Kirk Mullins. I don’t even want
to think what would have happened without
their help, as it all started out with just
Jim Hudgins and myself. These people are not
even Fellows or Pilgrims, you are. I’ll
shut up now.
Until
next time, goodbye and God bless you.
Fraternally
yours,
Terry

MOMENTS |
Here it is July already, the year is half
gone, I don't know where, but time flies when
you're having fun. We made it thru our first
steak nite, successfully thanks to you loyal
Lodge members.
We
had ten bikes with thirteen members brave
the early morning fog and then the heat to
ride the original route for the 2nd annual
Frazier/Mason Some Gave All ride on June 7th.
We joined about 100 other bikes to ride from
Spotsy High to King George High, and then
stopped at both gravesites before riding to
GM Powertrain for the rally. Estimates were
1000 bikes and 1200 spectators for the day
to honor 11 fallen war heroes.
June
19th to 22nd saw the Fredericksburg area overrun
by Harley riders for the Virginia State HOG
rally, and the Lodge got to show our famed
hospitality and meet Moose HOG members from
other parts of the State and Country.
Come
on out on the 5th for the Lodge picnic, and
enjoy the freedoms that our past
and present service men and women secured
for us.
See you at the Lodge
Ride Safe,
Pappy

COMMITTEE NEWS |
Brothers & Co-workers:
I’d
like to thank Governor Wayne Jones for having
me as our Endowment Committee chairman this
year. I don’t know why it is, but for
some reason, I’ve thought about chairing
this committee for many years. I look forward
to helping raise funds to ensure that Mooseheart
and Moosehaven are never without.
I
promised myself I would keep this article short,
so I will. I am planning two fundraisers at
this point in time. First of all, we will put
together another mystery bus tour. We’ve
been on two of these trips in the past year
and everyone had a great time. We visited Vienna,
Centreville, Franconia, and Woodbridge on the
first trip. Then we went to Sandston, Richmond-East,
Lakeside, and Ashland on the second one. This
time we are going in a different direction.
Obviously, I can’t tell you where because
then it wouldn’t be a “mystery trip.”
Suffice it to say you will have a good time
regardless. I will have more details on this
as the plan evolves. The price will be in the
$20-25 range and will include drinks and snacks
on the bus. The date for this event is September
13th. Stay tuned for more detailed information
next month.
My
second fundraiser is to raffle off a WII game.
This is a computer-type game that you hook up
to your television and has various games to
play. Some of them are bowling, boxing, tennis,
and golf. The bowling is a lot of fun and the
golf is challenging to say the least. This raffle
will take place sometime in October & November
and will be drawn on the Friday night after
Thanksgiving. I can tell you it would make a
great Christmas gift for someone. More details
will follow on this too.
Until
next month, always remember the children at
Mooseheart and the seniors at Moosehaven. Contribute
to this fund every time you get the chance.
It will be most appreciated by those affected
by your generosity.
Thank
you and God bless.
